Medieval Romantic, BA Seminar, Department of English, UCC

This course investigates the influence of the Middle Ages on the Romantic movement. Using Gothic, heroic, pastoral and elegiac works, we will look at how the medieval is inscribed in and re-written by the literature of the nineteenth century. We will also examine aspects of visual culture, literary production and political thinking to demonstrate how aspects of Romanticism were fundamentally retrospective.

Course Times, TP 2, 2009:

Mondays, 2-4 pm, BV6 11

 Tuesdays, 10-11am, BV5 G01

Consultations to be arranged.
